 Workers' Comp Database

Description:  I programmed a database which assisted a Workers' Compensation Insurance consulting firm.  They combined companies into any of a number of collectives, based on risk history, which reduced the companies' premiums and provided fees for the firm.

Employed by:  Self-employed

Operating System:  Windows for Workgroups 3.1

Programming Languages:   Paradox for Windows (OPAL) and C (Borland compiler).

Hardware:  IBM PC compatible with EGA adapter and HP LaserJet printer.

Program Requirements:
  • Interface user-friendly enough for computer-illiterate users.
  • Automatically import text-format data purchased from the State of Ohio to the in-house database.
  • Rate all companies registered in the state according to the ability of the firm to potentially reduce their Workers' Compensation Insurance payments.
  • Allow "testing" of companies to determine how adding a specific company to each collective would affect the premiums for the collective.
  • Print promotional letters for companies calculated to be potential clients.
  • Print billing statements, including automatic printing of past-due statements on the appropriate dates with late fees included.
  • Maintain accounts receivable and export this data in a format acceptable to QuickBooks.
  • Print summary reports for all companies, individual companies, and collectives.
